Local Events - Art/Work
Opening reception May 9th 5-7pm.
This exhibition explores work wear, work tools and notions of labor in society while showcasing creative and surprising plays on materials. In an interdisciplinary look at the topic, these artists cleverly pull from sociology, economics, gender studies and politics.
A note from the curator, Carin Jacobs:
“I’ve always admired the work of these three artists and their clever uses of materials. I knew they were all interested in labor and work and decided to showcase their unique perspectives on a topic that I hadn’t seen represented in quite this way, a topic of universal relevance and resonance. The industrial aesthetic of the Burdell Building, home to IceHouse Gallery, with its roots in the local poultry and dairy industry, seemed an ideal backdrop for social and cultural narratives of work and labor.
